SLT Audition & Training Program FAQs

AUDITIONS

When do Instructor Auditions take place?
All auditions will be done virtually.

Do I have to audition?
Yes, all potential trainees must audition for an invitation to our training program.

Do I need to be certified?
No, you do not need to hold any certifications in order to audition for the SLT Training Program.

What should I prepare?
Instructions on what to prepare will be included with your audition invitation, but don’t worry about preparing a routine on the Megaformer. We’re looking to get a sense of your teaching style, energy, knowledge of anatomy, musicality, physical presence, and personality while teaching whatever you choose to teach. In essence, we’re just looking for you to share your most authentic self.

When do I find out about being accepted to the program?
You will hear a final decision from us within 1 week of your audition.

training

When do instructor trainings occur?
Our instructor trainings occur every once per season (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) for the Greater NYC area, and 2-3x per year for all other regions.

What is the cost of training?
There is currently no cost to complete our training program.

How long does the training take?
The initial intensive training takes place over 8-10 days, followed by 1-on-1 training with an instructor from our training team, eventually culminating in a series of community classes and a final; test-out class. The entire process takes approximately 6-10 weeks.

What happens after I complete the two-week intensive training?
Once you complete the initial two-week intensive, you will then be paired up with one of SLT’s Master Instructors as your mentor. For the next 4-6 weeks, you will be practicing, assisting, taking, and teaching mock classes under the instruction/supervision of your mentor, until you pass your final audition and are approved to be on schedule.

What time during the week does the two week intensive training take place?
Our initial immersive training week takes place Monday-Friday roughly from 9-12pm or 1-4pm, and must be attended with full participation.

What times during the week do the practice training hours take place?
The practice training hours, with your assigned Master/Mentor Instructor, will take place at a time coordinated between you. These practice training hours can take place essentially any time our studios aren’t in use for a class (within reason).

How many practice training hours per week am I required to attend?
We require that all trainees are in-studio practicing with their mentor for a minimum of 6 hours per week . You will have the flexibility to schedule these hours with your paired mentor to fit your schedule, however, we do require a minimum of 6 hours per week throughout the duration of your training. On the same note, if you’re able to commit more time to your training on a weekly basis, you will have the potential to progress through your training more quickly, moving onto community classes sooner, as well.

Will I have a certification once I’ve completed my training?
You can request a certification of completion from SLT once you have completed the training program in its entirety.

If I have a full time 9-5 job, can I still attend training?
As long as you can attend the initial immersive training period and commit to a minimum of 6 hours of training per week afterwards, trainees with full time jobs are most certainly welcome in SLT’s training program (pending invitation after an audition).

lagree certified instructors

If I already have a Lagree Certification, do I need to attend the full two week intensive training?
Yes. We require that every trainee attends the full two-week training so that they can learn the SLT style and method of teaching.

If I already have a Lagree Certification, do I still need to attend practice training hours with a mentor?
Yes. You will still need to commit to practicing a minimum of 6 hours per week with your Master/Mentor instructor. That being said, there is certainly the possibility that your previous background in teaching a Lagree method will accelerate your training and get you to community classes & onto the schedule in a condensed time frame.

If I already have a Lagree Certification, will my full training take 10-12 weeks?
Not necessarily; We do our best to fast track any instructors that already have a Lagree Certification and experience teaching on the megaformer. Our goal is to have experienced instructors on the schedule and teaching as soon as possible, and there is no minimum amount of time required to be spent in training to begin teaching on the SLT schedule. Our training is about achieving a high level of technical prowess & coaching ability, not a specific amount of time.

Credits may only be used in the region they were purchased. List of regions as follows: NYC, Brooklyn, Hamptons, Westchester, Greenwich, Short Hills, Hoboken, Boston. EXCEPTION: NYC and Brooklyn credits are exchangeable.

LATE POLICY

WHAT IS YOUR LATE POLICY?

To ensure the safety of our clients, you need to arrive prior to class time if you are new to SLT as late entry will not be permitted. We require that all new clients receive a proper introduction to the instructor and Megaformer, so we suggest arriving 10 minutes before class begins. Thank you in advance for understanding!

If you are not a new client, it is recommended that you arrive at least five minutes before the start of class. However, we understand that life happens! In the case that you arrive late for class, your spot may be given to a walk-in client. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after start time, you will not be allowed entry for your safety and the experience of all clients.

If you wish to cancel a class, you must do so at least 12 hours in advance or your class credit will be forfeited. Please review our cancellation and walk-in policy in the event you are unable to make your scheduled class.

CANCELLATION POLICY

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

We have a 12 hour cancellation policy. If you wish to cancel a class, you must do so at least 12 hours before the class start time and the class will be credited back to your account.

CAN I SWITCH CLASSES?

If it is before 12 hours of the class start time, you can switch classes by cancelling the class that you are enrolled in and sign up for another class. If you realize you cannot make it to your class within the 12 hour window, classes cannot be switched. However, we do offer a same day switch option. If you miss a class, you may show up as a walk-in for another class that same day and if a spot is available, it’s yours! Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes for a class drop-in.

WHAT IF I DON’T SHOW UP FOR A CLASS THAT I SIGNED UP FOR?

If you are using a class package or single class you will lose your class credit.

NYC, Brooklyn, Greenwich, Westchester, Boston, Short Hills, Hoboken, Hamptons: If you have a membership, you will be charged a $30 fee for no showing or late canceling your class.

WAITLIST

WHAT IS THE WAITLIST AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

If a class you’d like to take is full, we highly recommend putting yourself on the waitlist. In order to do so, you must purchase a class or series. If you do not get a spot in the class, the class credit will be returned to your account. If a spot opens more than 12 hours before the start of class, you will be added to the class and receive an email confirmation.

All classes have a 12 hour cancellation policy, so if you’re added to a class from the waitlist at any time more than 12 hours before the start of class, be aware that the 12 hour cancellation policy still applies. If you are added to the class and don’t remove yourself in time, you will lose the class credit.

Any time before 12 hours of the start of class, if you are still on the waitlist and realize you no longer want a spot in class, please remove yourself from the waitlist, just like you would cancel a class, and the class credit will be returned to your account.

Please note that the waitlist locks and becomes void at the 12 hour mark prior to that class start time – therefore, potential spots in the class are available on a first come first serve basis.

HOW DO I CHECK IF I AM ON THE WAITLIST?

To check your waitlist status, log in to your account and select My Classes. If you are on the waitlist, you will see your waitlist position. If you do not want this class, be sure to remove yourself from the waitlist or notify us and we’ll remove you.

MEDICAL INQUIRIES

CAN I TAKE SLT or SLT TREAD IF I’M PREGNANT?

If you were regularly taking SLT or SLT Tread before you got pregnant, you can continue to take class as long as you feel comfortable and have your doctor’s approval. Please discuss this class with you doctor before taking class. If you are new to SLT or SLT Tread, we do not advise you to try it for the first time when pregnant. Doctors don’t recommend taking a new workout when pregnant, especially something as core-intensive as SLT.

Your physician should clear any post-pregnancy activity. Remember to be kind to your body and take your time getting back into a workout routine.

CAN I DO SLT or SLT TREAD FOR INJURY RECOVERY?

If you are recovering from knee, back or shoulder surgery we would not advise taking class until your doctor clears you to do so.

CAN I BRING MY PHONE INTO CLASS?

If you need to leave your phone by your machine in the case of an emergency, we totally understand. Otherwise, please leave your phone in a locker. It’s important to be mindful of others, phoning-in your workout is not! Please note that filming during class is prohibited. Feel free to snap a pic before or after!
